Motorola finally launched it’s new generation of budget smartphones for the year 2016. The Moto G family has been the best budget smartphones since it’s start. And with the launch of the line-up for 2016, it has definitely moved a step further. Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and maybe Moto G4 Play are the new phones that were launched today.
For starters, the names are quite confusing but not as confusing as the likes of Asus Zenfone line-up(Remember the Zenfone 2 and it’s probably 10 other variants). We’ll be talking about the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus in this article. There are many changes that keeps the new Moto G family fresh and exciting than it’s predecessors. The new phones now have a 1080p 5.5-inch display which is a welcome addition. The last year’s Moto G had a 720p screen which was the least in the segment that it competes. Though the 5.5-inch screen size came as a bummer to me, moving away from the sweet spot of 5-inch screen was not acceptable to me. If we take a look at the trend for the Moto G phones then we see that the original Moto G(launched about two and a half years ago) had a 4.5-inch display, and now it’s 5.5-inch. Now that’s a very steep increase if you ask me!
Moto G Family: What’s Inside
The phone is powered by the latest Snapdragon 617 Octa-core processor with 2GB or 3GB of RAM with 16GB and 32GB internal storage respectively. There is a significant increase in the battery, the new Moto G family have a bigger 3000mAh battery with “TurboPower” for fast charging. There is almost not many changes in the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus, the latter has fingerprint sensor and a bigger camera a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and laser and phase detection autofocus. The basic Moto G has a 13MP rear camera which might be same as that of Moto G 3rd Generation. Both the phones have a 5MP front camera. A good thing about these phones is that there is no hybrid SIM slot. Don’t be sad, it is a dual SIM dual 4G enabled phone with dedicated slot fot microSD card that supports upto 128 GB of storage. Well all things cannot be great right? The new Moto G family do not have the dual front facing speakers as their predecessors had. Now it’s a single speaker on the front that will do the music for you.
Moto G Family: Worth the upgrade?
Well that’s a tricky one, now we have smartphones coming at a frequency of 2-3 months and a new phone might be outdated within a month. The new Moto G Family is definitely not for someone who owns the Moto G 3rd Generation. But someone who owns a Moto G 2nd or 1st Gen, they should be very happy to get this new upgrade.
Moto G Family: Where to buy?
Well this time, Motorola ditched Flipkart and collaborated with Amazon India. You can buy the Moto G4 Plus from midnight onwards. The Moto G4 will be available later this month.
