Finally the wait is over and the flagship by Nokia is unveiled at MWC 2018, the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The new phone is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, with pOLED screen, a noteworthy mention to the IP67 rated stainless steel body which is processed using diamond cut technology.
The design of the phone is the most stand out feature of this smartphone. We have seen curved glasses with bleeding edges screen but this one is unique in itself. While all other flagships are running in the race to get their 18:9 display ratio correct, the Nokia 8 Sirocco stays away from this rat race and showcases the good old 16:9 display with 5.5” pOLED panel and 2560×1440 resolution.
The hardware is definitely on par with the 2018 standards but one thing that I didn’t liked is the fact that the device doesn’t feature the latest processor. Yes, the phone runs on 2017 Snapdragon 835 processor while the other flagships enjoy the likes of Snapdragon 845 SoC. The device sports 6GB of RAM and an onboard storage of 128GB which should be enough even for a power user. The glass panels on the back makes way for wireless charging and the ability to charge 50% in 30 minutes sounds really appealing.
The software part is taken care of by Stock Android, yes this is the most satisfying feature that every Android user would ask for if provided by all OEM’s. The device will be labelled as an Android One device. What this means that all the latest updated will be available to Nokia 8 Sirocco for the at least 2 years. This is a great thing as consumers do suffer from the gap of OS updates as it takes time for OEM’s to update their devices with the release of new Android versions. Regular security updates and two years of OS upgrades means the Nokia 8 Sirocco with Android One stays secure and features the latest Google innovations like being optimized for the Google Assistant.
The phone is expected to be priced at around Rs 42,999. But these are just speculations and they may vary at the time of retail launch.
To conclude is can be said that the Nokia 8 Sirocco is a bold step that Nokia has taken and only time will tell if it was a good move or not. I personally didn’t found anything extraordinary in the flagship offered by Nokia, it can be due to the fact that other big players have that oomph factor which Nokia lacks.
Did the Nokia 8 Sirocco entice you? Let me know in the comments, until next time.
