iPhone 12 Release Date and Price
The iPhone 12 has the release date set for October 23 and pre-order have already been started on the Apple official website. The smallest iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-orders from November 6 and will be out on November 13.
Apple has confirmed that the prices will start from INR 69, 900 for iPhone 12. This is higher than the iPhone 11 range because of the introduction of 5G to all devices.
iPhone 12 Design and Display
The new iPhone 12 features a 6.1 inch display size with a notch at the top, the size of the notch remains almost similar to last year’s model.
The iPhone 12 has five attractive colours: black, white, green, blue and product red. If you loved the iPhone 5S design then you’ll love the iPhone 12’s as well. This time Apple has given us an aluminium frame around the outside of the phone. The edges are less rounded than on the recent iPhones.
On the rear you’ll find glass and Apple claims that it’s tougher than the previous iPhones. The glass on the front is called Ceramic Shield which is said to be more durable than the latest Gorilla glass.
Apple is prone to giving fancy numbers, the iPhone 12 is 11% thinner, 15% smaller and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11. This change also translates on the dimensions as 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4mm, and it weighs 162 grams.
The display of iPhone 12 is 6.1 inch Super Retina XDR display which has more pixels than the iPhone 11 and it’s brightness peaks at 1200-nits, this means that the brightness is also more than on the previous iPhones.
The right hand side of the iPhone 12 features a small indent below the power button which is a 5G antenna. Since the body is aluminium, the indent will ensure that the 5G connectivity is strong. Apple also confirmed that both sub-6 and mmWave tech will be included in all the new iPhones, so it should work with all carriers around the world that provide 5G connections.
The iPhone 12 is powered by the A14 Bionic chip, it’s the same which is coming with the newest iPad Air-4 and it’s the world’s first 5nm chip. Apple has boasted that the new chip is 40% more powerful than the A13 chip found in last year’s iPhone 11 phones.
The storage options will have 64GB, 128GB and 256 GB variants and since these phones do not have microSD support it would be wise to opt for the higher storage variant if you can. The phone comes with iOS 14 out of the box which is the newest software update that was release last month.
iPhone 12 Cameras
The iPhones have always been one of the best phones with better optics and the iPhone 12 series is also not shy of boasting about it. The iPhone 12 comes with a dual rear camera. There’s a 12 MP wide camera with an insane f/1.6 aperture and another 12MP ultra-wide shooter with f/2.4 aperture and 120 degree feel of view.
Apple has claimed that the new camera offers 27% improvement in low-light performance and that would be amazing since the iPhone 11 already had an impressive night mode.
The phone will also feature the previous years portrait mode, 4K video recording at 24, 30 and 60 fps and digital zoom upto 5x.
The front camera is a 12 MP selfie with a f/2.2 aperture which should be good enough for those selfies and video calls.
The iPhone 12 also comes with the Face ID to unlock the phone as it does not have a fingerprint scanner.
iPhone 12 Battery
Apple claims that the iPhone 12 has a video playback capacity of 16 hours . And to know how big the battery is we’ll have to wait until it is launched and someone opens it up.
The biggest improvement here is the introduction of MagSafe, which is essentially a wireless charger with magnets. According to Apple, the MagSafe charging is faster than Qi wireless charging and it will use 15W charging while Qi wireless charging is limited to 7.5W.
There are other accessories which revolve around the MagSafe world which we’ll cover in the next article.
iPhone 12 Accessories
Finally what you get inside the box is your beloved iPhone 12 and a USB -C-to-Lightning cable . Yes, you heard that right.
You won’t get the good old charging brick or a pair of Apple Earbuds with the new iPhone 12 this time. This move is on the pretext of reducing the amount of e-waste generated when you buy a new iPhone.
