iPhone 12 vs iPhone 12 Pro: Which one should you pick?

Apple had recently launched iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro phones along with iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The standard and the Pro model pre-orders have started in India. One of the important aspect of any phone is its display, fortunately the new iPhones share the same display in their standard and Pro variants. Its a 6.1 inch Super Retina display. The iPhone 11 had an LCD panel while the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro has an OLED panel. The notch still exists and will remain here for some more time. The notch contains the front camera, earpiece, Face ID and other sensors. The display has 20,00,000:1 contrast ratio and it’s brightness peaks at 1200 nits. Both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are IP 68 rated meaning they can survive a dip in water upto 6 meters for 30 minutes.


Both the standard and Pro variants have A14 Bionic chip and the next-gen neural engine. There are two stereo speakers on both the devices. The iPhone have all the necessary features like 5G, VoLTE, WiFi-6, NFC etc. Both the phones comes with iOS 14 out of the box.

Apple being Apple, they never share the battery capacity. But they did claimed that both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will give 17 hours of video playback. Both support the new MagSafe wireless chargers. Good thing to take note is that MagSafe chargers support 15W charging. While other Qi wireless charger support 7.5W charging. As a result, the MagSafe will topup your phone by 50 percent in around 30 minutes only.

What is different?

Before diving in the differences, if you are low on budget then you can easily skip the rest and get the iPhone 12. There are very few differences and the iPhone 12 seems to be a great option.


One of the major differences lies in the camera department. The iPhone 12 has a dual-camera setup and doesn’t have the LiDAR sensor and the extra telephoto lens compared to the Pro variant. On the rear you get a 12 MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.4 aperture with 120-degree field of view. The camera is capable of shooting 4K videos as well. The device supports 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. The front shooter is a 12 MP sensor with f/2.2 lens.

The iPhone 12 Pro similar camera specs with an addition of a third 12 MP telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture. It supports 4x optical zoom and upto 10x digital zoom. You can record videos with 6x digital zoom. This also sports a LiDAR sensor and the from shooter is a 12 MP selfie camera with Retina Flash support.

The iPhone 12 Pro comes with more base storage and RAM options than the standard model. The storage options on the Pro variant are 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, while the standard variant starts with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. You’ll get an aluminium finished frame on the iPhone 12, while the iPhone 12 Pro gets stainless steel frame.


You will have to shell out INR 79,900 for the base variant of the iPhone 12. The 128GB variant will cost INR 84,900 and the top-end 256GB variant will cost INR 94,900. The iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand starts at INR 1,19,900 for the 128GB variant. The prices for the 256GB and 512GB variants are INR 1,29,900 and INR 1,49,900 respectively.


The iPhones are getting expensive, but you can get big discounts on HDFC credit and debit cards. You can get a discount of INR 6000 for the iPhone 12 and a cash back of INR 5000 for the iPhone 12 Pro. The sale of the phones will start in India from October 30. Both are great phones and choosing either of them would depend on your decision.
